To Keep your AC bills low in the winter, you should reduce your thermostat levels to as low as 8°F or 10°F at most. The higher the level of your thermostat, the more the amount of electricity it uses. During winter, thee electricity bills go up and this is the main reason. Another way to reduce your AC bills is by installing a smart thermostat. A smart thermostat manages the thermostat levels automatically.
Reducing the thermostat levels will, however, make your house very cold. It is therefore not advisable for people with chest problems or allergies to cold weather. If you do not have chest problems, you can lower the thermostat levels and use the following alternative methods to keep warm:
- Add proper insulation to your home. When your house is properly insulated, there will be very little cold air coming in. This means that you will rarely need the AC thermostat levels to be high.
- Wear warm clothing. Keep your body warm by putting on heavy clothing e.g. gloves, socks, sweatpants, and sweaters among others.
- Light the fireplace if you have one. Old school methods are not out of the question. A fireplace will keep you warm and the whole house too. Firewood is relatively affordable.
- Take hot drinks every once in a while. Hot drinks like coffee, tea, and even soup keeps your body warm for a short period of time.
