A garage door can be opened without power by manually lifting the door up when opening and pulling the down the door when closing. Having trouble pulling your door down? I will take you through the steps on how to open a garage door without power.
How To Open A Garage Door Without Power
- The first step is to pull the release chord: There is usually a red colored release chord on the end of the drive unit of a garage door. This is what holds the door down so that only the remote control can be able to operate the garage door. Pull this release chord.
- Lift the garage door to the endpoint: After you pull the release chord, you will realize that the door can move when you try lifting it. Lift the garage door to the end. Ensure your door reaches the end because it will come back done when opened halfway.
Opening garage doors manually however has its dangers. Kids should not be opening the garage door because of their short height. With short height, the door will come back down if it does not reach the end. Also, without the release chord and weak springs, the door may fall on someone or a car accidently.
