You can clean the inside of an AC unit by removing the cover of the main unit and the condenser unit. After the covers are off, you will clean the filter and the coil using dish soap and water, among other cleaning agents. I will take you through the steps of cleaning the inside of an AC unit to help you understand better.
How To Clean The Inside Of An AC Unit
- The first step is to power off your AC unit. Unplug the AC unit’s power chord from the power source. This is a safety measure to prevent electrocution when cleaning an AC unit.
- Open the front lid of the window AC unit, remove the filter, and clean it. On your window AC unit, remove the filter and wash it using hot water and detergent stop. Rinse it, let it dry then reinstall it back to the window AC unit. If the filter is too old, the best option would be to replace it with a new one.
- Clean the window AC unit vents: Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the vents on the front cover of your window AC unit.
- Open the condenser unit and clean the coils. Carefully remove the cover of the condenser unit by using a screwdriver to unscrew the screws. Spray a compressed gas duster on the coils. Use a hosepipe to rinse away the dirt. Return the lid to the condenser unit and then plug it back into your AC unit.
