A window AC unit cannot be cleaned using vinegar. Vinegar is a really strong cleaning agent just like bleach. Using vinegar to clean your window AC unit will corrode the coating of the window AC unit. Although vinegar is one of the perfect cleaning agents, it is discouraged when the material cannot handle its strength.
There are other safe options for cleaning a window AC unit that will not affect its state in any way. Below is a list of safe ways to clean a window AC unit:
Safe Ways To Clean A Window AC Unit
- Using water mixed with soap detergent. Pour water (preferably warm water) into a container and mix it with soap detergent. Use a rug to scrub off the dirt. After scrubbing the AC unit, rinse it using a hosepipe.
- Using a vacuum cleaner. This is the perfect means of cleaning a window AC unit because no liquids are involved. A vacuum cleaner will blow off all the dust accumulated over a period of time. I would advise that you use a vacuum cleaner first even when planning to use another method of cleaning.
- Using warm water and dish soap. Warm water and add it to your container. Warm water is preferred due to its ability to wash off tough germs e.g. scum formed over a period of time. Apply dish soap to the rug and use it to scrub off the dirt and scum on the AC unit. When done scrubbing, rinse the AC unit using a hosepipe.
