A garage door can be opened manually by pulling the red release cord that will allow you to lift the garage door and lower it down using your hands. The red release cord is what holds the door in place so it does not close itself after being opened using a remote control. When opening a garage door manually, ensure to lock it immediately after because when the release cord is pulled, the door can lock itself up against your will. This could hurt someone if it goes down on its own.
When lifting your garage door ensure that you lift it all the way to the top. Manually opening a door should not be done by children or someone who is very short unless it is a side-to-side garage. When closing the garage door, do it gently. Make sure you lower the door to the end. Avoid banging the door so as to avoid damaging it.
