Lumber prices vary depending on the seasons. The cost of purchasing lumber is the cheapest during summer. I would advise buying lumber when the summer is about to end. The demand for lumber is high at the beginning to the half of summer and decreases as the summer heads to an end. During summer a lot of construction takes place due to the favorable weather.
Is Lumber Cheaper During Summer Or Winter?
It is cheaper to buy lumber during summer in comparison to buying lumber in winter. The following are reasons why buying lumber in summer is cheaper than buying it in winter:
- There is a low supply of lumber in winter. Snow makes harvesting lumber difficult. This means that a lot of money is spent to distribute lumber during winter. Suppliers require more laborers and machinery to tackle the snow.
- Snow makes it difficult for the transportation of lumber from suppliers to buyers. A lot of money is spent on fuel and repair.
- Winters have longer nights and shorter days. In addition to this, working during winter for long hours is dangerous to one’s health. This means that a low number of lumber is harvested as a result of the limited working hours.
Generally, the prices of lumber go down when there is a high supply. The good news is that the price of lumber has gone slightly down in 2023 compared to the previous years. This will change over time depending on the availability of labor.
